According to some very basic laws of nature, when powerful forces come together, some form of energy is created - usually in large amounts. In music, the laws of interaction are no different. When keyboardist Bob James, bassist Nathan East, guitarist Larry Carlton and drummer Harvey Mason come together as Fourplay, the result is Energy.

Energy grafts a variety of sounds - R&B, pop, African and more - to Fourplay's unwavering jazz foundations. In addition to vocals by East - a charter member since the band's inception in 1990 - the album also features a vocal track by Esperanza Spalding, the upright bassist, composer and vocalist.

I am tired of writing 5 star reviews for this super group..just go buy the cd its Fourplay enough said...and for those new fans Bob James is not fourplay. ~ Hudson G TANNIS

This has to be the best Bob James CD that Fourplay ever made. Thats right, on this CD, Bob James' musical influence can be heard throughout, from Bob James albums, 1, 2, and 3 as well as Taxi. I own all of these and I heard styling cues from each. This is not to say that its the same old sound, its not. I'd day they have broken new grounds with this effort as the compositions are creative and evolutionary, but at the same time sound fresh. Maybe the sound of CDs are getting better as I can honestly say that I have never heard Bob James' piano sound better. All the other instruments sound distinct, too, and the synergy of these musicians was outstanding. This is a great CD with a stellar recording, and tops all past Fourplay CDs. I played it from start to finish without skipping tracks so that says a lot. ~ Robert G. Raynor
